Renaming windows C: drive to D: or something else ( 1 Views )

no kitty!
  1. So i can reinstall windows as the C: drive. Anyone?

i used partition magic to make a 63gig and 11 gig partition, 74 gig drive on a laptop.

there's alot of stuff on the 63 gig partition i'm trying not to lose

i want the current windows installtion to be renamed to D: drive, so when i reinstall windows on the 11 gig partition, it will install as the C: drive

i could change it with partition magic, but then the drive will be unbootable, tried that before. and i don't know if i will lose the stuff on the drive or not, or not be able to access the drive, and i don't wanna take that chance

  4. i had the same thing happen to me using partion magic, i ended up having to get a new drive install it, install xp on to the new drive and save my data.

i tried everything to get things to work again with no luck. maybe someone here will be able to help u out.

it gave me a excuse to buy a new big drive.

  5. Nightmare, I've been in this situ a few too many times.
By far the quickest and most reliable way to sort this out is to reinstall or restore an image to a fresh drive with newly created partitions (if needed).
Make sure that there are no other drives in the system while installing and boot into the OS before adding another drive to the system.
Any drive that was previously labelled drive C: is likely to be given that drive letter.
Any partition on the same drive that was created before the partition you wish to use can steal drive C: letter as well!
