Did I screw myself ( 2 Views )

no kitty!
  1. Alright about 2 weeks ago my 360 got the 3 red lights and wouldn't even boot. Now I find that my warranty has been extended, COOL, problem is when it broke I didn't have a warranty and money to buy a new one so I figured what the hell and proceeded to crack it open. I took off the face plate and peeled the sticker off, got a phone call and went away and started doing something else and forgot about it. Since all I did was peel the sticker off (I didn't open it or remove any screws or anything all I did was remove the sticker) will they still honor the new warranty?

  2. Honestly, I think you are screwed.

I was thinking about saying I got it from a pawn shop and I didn't even know it was like that.

Just call them, setup a repair, don't tell them about the sticker. I had one on which the sticker had been peeled back, but it hadn't been opened, I sent it in and never heard a word about it. Let's face it, the monkeys they hire to do the repairs on these things don't give two flaming shits. Just put the sticker back as well as you can and call it a day. I doubt they'll say a word about it.

+1, once they get your console they send you a refurb, you'll probably have a new 360 before they would notice the stickers been touched.

    (cabbar, Yemen)

  16. You voided your warranty.

They will not replace your console.

    (snm, Antarctica)

  17. screwed...

    (nazir, Tonga)

  18. You could just go ahead and fix it yourself. 9 times out of 10 its only going to take about 20 minutes and ~$4 in parts.

    (semra, Cote D'Ivoire)

  19. Just wait until Microsoft is forced into doing a recall:P hahaha

I mean I say they can extend the warranty what 2-3 times then they have to issue a recall right? Or they can just say fuck it and give everyone a lifetime warranty

Well a recall really wouldnt help. I dont think they solved the problem of why a good amount of them fail. It seems like its a luck of the draw on which one you get. You either get a working one or a plagued one that is set to RROD in 2-5 months. A lifetime warrenty I can see though. It be a year at least to it happens if not more, but I can see one gettting announced eventually.

I had mine since December and so far its going strong. Hopefully it stay strong!!

  21. You will Call, wait 45 minutes on hold after listening to a retarded voice prompt system named 'max'.

You will speak to some one in India and they will read you questions from a script.

In your case: If they say they can repair it under warranty. You run the risk of being misinformed and wasting alot of time and money.

    The moral of this story:
Xbox 360 repair is a bitch even under warranty. Also be preparded to go with out your system for a month+

I called myself because my dvd drive wouldn't open with out a little help. It's flimsy and seemed to open at a slight angle and catch on something. I was so irritated by the time I got off the phone with them that I just took it apart and repaired it myself. I went ahead and hacked it since I already went through the trouble of opening the thing. Microsoft's eventual loss.

I've had two seperate 360's replaced/repaired under warranty and was on the phone for 15 minutes maximum, and it only took a week to get both systems back. Each incident was about 13 months apart so it wasn't on a "good" day or anything.

Really? I called yesterday. You call now and tell me how it goes. The woman on the phone told me it will take 4 weeks. I guess since they extended the warranty the customer service suffers.

Yeah, I would imagine that they will be really busy for a couple of months because they will likely get a flood of systems that broke out of warranty that people didn't get repaired. After the initial rush I would wager a guess that they will be back to an approximate 2 week turnaround.

Count yourself lucky, I was without a working 360 for 6 fucking MONTHS, and when the bastards did get it back to me it took 2 months to get a hard drive back out of them.

Although I'm glad for the new warranty, I'm still gonna get my replacement 360 at Costco so I never have to deal with their shit service :p

    (ömer, Chad)

  27. Hope you get it fixed man, that must've sucked.

Finding a sticker on ebay seems like a viable try at this point.. lol

  28. there is absolutely no harm in trying, so try! :D

  31. he means purchase a new xbox 360 and return the known broken/tampered one.
hoping the person working at the returns counter is too lazy to check the serials or notice the condition of the unit in the box.

in other words, commit an illegal act more commonly known as fraud.

  33. if you send your box in after cracking it open, they're going to send it back to you with a letter telling you that you voided your warranty.

    (bjk, Montserrat)

  34. Well technically since he was already out of the original warranty and did not have an extended what he does to the console should not matter. He should be able to do whatever he wants to it because TECHNICALLY he was already out of the warranty. Since MS just brought about that they were extending the warranty this last week he should be exempt. I would give MS a call and talk to a supervisor/manager if the CSR doesnt help. Explain the situation as such, you realized you were already out of the negotiated manufacturers warranty and that anything you did to the console would not exempt it since the warranty expired. Only after such were you informed that the warranty was SUDDENLY extended to 3 yrs. Try this and see what they say, worst they can do it tell you NO and you are back where you started.

  35. dude you dont even have to switch it at walmart. just take it up there and tell em its broke. you dont even need a reciept. i've returned many a PS2 and xbox this way.

I doubt it. As I mentioned before, one of mine (one of the ones they sent me, actually) had a sticker that was busted, though the console had never been opened, and I sent it in anyway, and they never said one word about it, just sent another.

Given that they're in "garner public favor" mode at the moment, there's a chance, anyone's guess how good, of course, that they won't even bother with it.

Set it up under the RROD warranty, don't mention the sticker, just send it in. What do you have to lose? :p

If they send you a new one, they could send you a bill for it after the fact, claiming that you voided the warranty on your old one.

Happened to me with a Gameboy once.

They *could*, but at least in my case they *didn't*. Worst case scenario they charge you the $120 or whatever it is to repair the console. Either way, you're still out far less than just going to get a new one
