question about x360 games on 16:10 monitor ( 2 Views )

1. Do any of you run your console on a 16:10 PC monitor stretched to the full display? does it really look 'strange' compared to a true 16:9 picture?
   
   here's the thing, I remember playing pc games at 1280x1024 on my 4:3 monitor, and I used it for so long that things looked natural to me, even though 1280x1024 is a 5:4 resolution, and therefore wasn't the correct aspect all that time. then after going to 1280x960, the true aspect, things looked squished. is it the same kinda thing with a 16:9 picture stretched to 16:10 you think? just have to get used to it?

2. I have mine on a 1680x1050 display that I share with my pc and play at 1280x1024 and it looks decent. Nothing looks mis-proportioned. But b/c of non native res anything that looks crappy (ala forza 2) looks like abosolute shit.

3. It doesn't look bad and characters don't look distorted, but you can tell its not the right aspect ratio when you play games with circular cross hairs.

4. I play on a 22" Acer using monoprice's HDMI to DVI converter at 1920x1080. The games look distorted but the only time I notice it is when I'm looking at the cars in Forza. Every other game looks great. It's something that you glaze over once you get into the action of the game. Stretching issues aside the picture quality is nothing short of amazing and I'm very happy gaming on it. Hopefully MS comes out with a 16:10 fix soon.

5. I use a Dell 2405 and run my 360 at full screen. The distortion is barely noticable to me. Only the occasional circle gives it away. Other than that it looks normal.

6. So what is the best gaming LCD monitor for the Xbox 360 and PS3. I been looking at the Dell and Benq lines but its hard to make the jump.

   Same here, 22" Acer with a $8 Phillips HDMI to DVI adapteri really cant notice the distortion... looks great!

8. I have a 20" dell, I set it to Aspect mode (instead of fill, you can do 1:1 but it will be ultra small) and it scales the resolution to the screen leaving a small black bar on the top and bottom. No distortion, and looks awesome.

9. I have a Dell 2007WFP and it does a good job with the 360 simply by choosing the highest widescreen res on the 360 (1366x768) and then using "fill" instead of 1:1.

    Maybe because it can do a 1080 resolution while the 20's and 22's can't? :P
    
    Anyway, I used to use the fill action and it worked fine as described earlier, but the aspect one might be a better choice. You'll get some stretching that you can notice when there are circular objects on the screen, and you may notice some stretching elsewhere, but it's definitely doable.
