Older Laptop Recommendation ( 3 Views )

1. There are quite a few older laptops out there, can anyone recommend a certain brand/model to me for my needs outlined below?
   
   Minimum Requirements:
   P2 or P3 500MHz or faster
   192MB RAM
   1024x768 display
   6+ hour battery life
   1 Serial and 1 USB port
   
   Applications I will be running are simple 2D apps programmed in Visual Basic that store data in a simple, and small, Access 2000 database. I will be also running a simple terminal like program to control a hardwired device. I will rarely, if ever, have a need to surf the web or multi-task beyond two applications. The only time the laptop will be connected to my network is when I need to download data to my workstation from the laptop. OS will either be Win 98 or 2K depending on how machine is configured. Long battery life is probably my biggest requirement.

2. Your going to probably need a newer laptop to get that much battery life, older laptops did not have very good power management. Sounds like you may want something in the 12-14" screen size range with atleast a 6 cell battery and newer platform that has better power management features, like atleast a centrino model.

3. I used to use this old Compaq E500, they have 3 battery slots. 2-3hr per battery, add it up. Of course it ends up feeling like lead when loaded, plus the 3rd battery is hard to get cheap. They take upto 512 ram and upto 1ghz p3, though most of them are around 600mhz, plus the cpus aren't replaceable.
