  1. I went to Vincent's site yesterday, and what did I find?

    April 6, 2004 - Discontinued...

    I never thought this would really happen, which is why I'm mentioning it only now: Eclipse is discontinued. After my graduation late 2002 I got a full-time job, bought a house and became the father of a beautiful baby girl. Since then I haven't had any time to get any work done regarding Eclipse. I hoped I would, but it's now April 2004 and it hasn't happened yet. So it's time to draw conclusions...

    All is not lost however. I will keep this site in the air as long as necessary. Also, Jason Lotito has forked Eclipse into a new version called Eclipse CE. You can find it here.

    I've certainly enjoyed working on Eclipse, and I have appreciated all of your comments, may they be good or bad. Thank you.
    Since I'm using eclipse all the time, this is indeed a bit sad. From what I gathered in a post here the other day though, it looks like you can get to work Eclipse with PHP5, apart from that Iterator namespace problem. Did actually any work happen on Eclipse CE? Well, I for one don't think that I could extend the library in the same clean style that Vincent provided...

  2. I never expected any updates.. I think that the db-abstraction he wrote will keep it's value for as long as the internal db api functions of php keep the same (and I expect they will for a long time).

    Good style is timeless. :) (see porsche 911)

    No one could, Vincent had a very unique style. Congrats on being a father btw :)

  4. Funny, I just posted a small article on steps taken to port/reafctor the MySQL part of the library to PHP5 this morning. My port kinda breaks backward compatebility though ( try/catch etc ), but I needed something for a upcomming project. ( see my sig )

  5. Nucleuz, many thanks for this one :D ! Should be an interesting read. I also like that it's written in a tutorial style. I know about the new PHP5 features (and I'm looking forward to using it), but it will be interesting to read on how to go about porting older scripts properly.

    Now with PHP5 in the last release cycle it's time to have a look at what you can do to port/refactor old classes to utilize the new PHP5 functionality.

  6. PHP Code:

    Warning: main(settings.inc.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/phpvolcano/www/articles/index.php on line 2

    Fatal error
    : main(): Failed opening required 'settings.inc.php' (include_path='.:/usr/local/share/pear:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home/phpvolcano/www/articles/index.php on line 2
