Good news for windows users :D

Finally, something that can survive inside a Mac :p

Most P2P programs like Kazaa block stuff like .mp3.vbs extensions by default to help filter the results of peoples machines that are massively infected with viruses.
Like vinnie said in another post, if I ever got a virus on my Mac I don't run as the administrator so it wouldn't be able to load anything onto my system with out a password.

It's usually pretty easy to spot "Britney_Spears-Toxic_2004_not_a_virus.mp3.jpg.pif.vbs.exe" though. If that whole "hide extensions" thing wasn't disabled by default in most OSes, I think more people would be aware of what they're downloading.

So if you were intego and your Mac sales a virus software is lacking, what could you do to get more sales. Hmmmm......
Maybe create a Trojan (that's not really a Trojan by the way) call it virus and put out a press release. Scare your market into buying your software. Not a bad idea.

That's true... :)

This virus runs as the logged in user though, and only trashes personal files. Somebody else using the system will be unaffected, unless they too execute the virus. Worst case scenario: create a new user account, hope your own files were backed up.
Edit:
I'm not saying that Mac users shouldn't have AV software (Norton and Virex are both available), but it's just worth noting that this won't do as much damage to your actual system functions as your run of the mill Windows virus.
