Flash CDs ( 7 Views )

  1. Hey!

I was wondering how you go about making a flash document that will be used for a CD presentation? Is there anything different you have to think about than when you make a flash movie for a website? How do you account for the different platforms? What about the different screen resolution?

Can someone tell me what I will need to know to make a good CD rom?

    Thanks!

  2. You'll need to make projector files instead of SWFs. You can find this option in the "Publish Settings." Just check the Windows Projector and Macintosh Projector boxes and click "Publish"

Making a hybrid CD can be a little more complicated. On a Mac you can just use Toast. On a PC you'll have to do a little more. Check here for more info:

On the PC side you'll also want to creat and autorun file so that the movie starts playing automatically when you put the CD in the drive.

  3. Hi Jordan

We've made several Mac/PC disks using MacImage and MacDisk. They work a treat!

Make a start file in Flash (start.fla) that only loads your main index.swf file (or whatever you've called it). Also use the fscommand ActionScript to set up how you want the projector to run (full screen, etc).

Do the rest as Redivider says.

You will probably need DeBinHex if you're on a PC (also available from the MacDisk site) to convert the hqx file to a Mac binary.

Put the Mac projector on the Mac side, the PC projector on the PC side, and all of your main SWF files on both. (Putting them on both is the default action in MacImage.)

Save from MacImage as an ISO and burn it with your favorite CD making app.

Actually, MacImage will do it for you.

Just drag the hqx file onto the HFS side of your disc image and it will automatically strip out the Mac binary for you.
