7950 GX2 problem? ( 3 Views )

1. I think my drivers were corrupted by a virus because when I restarted my computer all I got was the POST screen and the windows load up screen and then a blank screen? Cannot access (via F8) safemode at all. Only bios. What do these symptoms sound like? If it was my videocard drivers wouldn't you not be able to see anything (Post screen, windows load up screen?) I don't know what to do. Just want to make use of my good video card. Oh yeah, before I restarted my computer I had a movie playing and I turned off my tv and when I turned it back on my resoulution had gone from 1024X768 to 460X680 with a window saying something about my Nvidia control panel having an error? Should have wrote everything in the window down but I tried restarting my computer instead? Help me please, I beg you.

2. Hey uh, no need to beg.
   Have you tried any old cards to see if that gets you anywhere? That's the first thing I try when I get blank screens. Once you get into windows you can look into what the causes actually are.
   Also, how are you certain it was a virus?

I don't have another PCI express card to try with, and I think it was a virus because I was playing a downloaded movie when it happened (although the movie was an "aXXo" movie and he has never been know to do something like that). It seems to be the only logical explanation though, I had the tv turned off at the time it happened so I didn't see exactly what happened, only the outcome. My room was kinda hot though so maybe the memory on the video card got corrupted? Can drivers just corrupt without warning?

4. btw, I don't have on-board video or an agp slot (ironically I only have an AGP card) to check with, so I guess if it is the drivers the only way to get new ones is to put my 7950 onto a motherboard with on-board video, otherwise it would be impossible for anyone to remove and update corrupted drivers with new ones if they don't have a motherboard with on-board video.

6. You can't get to Safe Mode at all? Were you able to before? Sounds like Windows is messed up, not just your display driver.

7. I was able to before this all happened, I can access BIOS but tried default setting and it didn't do anything. Fuck, I hope my windows isn't fucked up.

8. Sounds like your vid card.
   
   Usually symptomatic of an overheated vid card. I don't know what to say at this point...it would be nice if you can eliminate other possibilities with another card to make sure it's not something else though.
