Mass formatting tools? ( 5 Views )
-
I'm doing a website for a county government and they want to put their codes and ordinances online. They paid a publishing company to create several variations of the codes, one of which is HTML, however, the formatting is different from the format of the site. Is there a tool that can strip out the html code and insert the design and layout that I want? There are about 500 pages and I would really prefer to not have to do them all by hand. I thought about a database setup, but the site needs to be able to be maintained by relative novices and a database may not work too well for them. TIA

it may help if we can see a sample page so we know what kind of data we're talking about here.
In any case, a database really is what you should be thinking about if there is so much information. It would make life a helluva lot easier for everyone involved, trust me. And your comment about the novices at county not being able to cope with working on a database - well build a simple web-based interface (content management system) using php or your language of choice, so everything can be managed that way....

There's a program called ActualSR that you can download a trial of. It's a utility to do search/replace functions on multiple files at once. I'm not sure how well it woudl work for what you're needing, but that's about the only thing I can thnk of right off hand for that.
