Please review my new site:) ( 2 Views )

no kitty!
  1. Hi all,

I have been building a new site for web hosting and domain name registrations, The basic idea is to give a briefing on each type of web hosting and then put some recommended links for web hosts in addition to adsense ads.

I haven't finished the website yet because of lack of free time. but I have finished some pages like this one:

    http://www.web-hostingresource.com/domains.htm

The rest of pages will be based on the same concept including the main page:

    http://www.web-hostingresource.com/w...ing-shared.htm

    http://www.web-hostingresource.com/w...ing-budget.htm

Please give me your thoughs on the design and layout of the page and whther you like it or not :)

    Many thanks in advance

    (salih, India)

  2. Left menu is a little small and hard to read.
What is "Navigation" column on the right use for?
The font is a little small.
Overall, very nice layout and easy to navigate.

    (burak, Haiti)

  3. looks nice, I think your text links could benefit from a CSS rollover highlight script. Honestly I dont know it off the top of my head because I use Dreamweaver. Can anyone help us out here?

    (hülya, Ghana)

  4. Space out the links on the left, they are too close together vertically. also, i dont like the transition between the light blue and dark blue right unde the logo. It looks very out of focus, makes my eyes feel wierd

    (kadil, Anguilla)

  5. everything looks scrunched up - space it out - especially the links. try a different shade of blue for a background - it's kind of bland and depressing right now - or at least add some color to the background. the links are hard to view scrunched up like that, too.

    (başak, Solomon Islands)

  6. Thanks all for the useful hints :) I just saw your reports and I will read them carefully.

    Here are some quick replies:

The navigation on the right will be removed and replaced with related articles, I will use headlines for articles relating to the text on the page.

I am user of Dreamweaver as well and I wish I could use a CSS with mouseover effect like underline or something similar, I really appreciate it if someone told me how :)

I am making developments everynow and then, the footer will look like this soon:

  8. so your nav is going to go to the right of google Adsense?? I dont think that's smart, one little click and I'm away from your site.

Your logo should always be a link to the homepage.

rounded corner at the top left is pixelated

    that's all for now

    Nope :)

I mean the navbar will remain on left, the right most column will present links for related articles on web hosting, for example, on the domain page, i will put articles on picking the right domain, how to choose a registrar...etc.

  10. I think there are too many ads... and not enuf gfx.

  11. WinXP, IE6.0, NS7.1, Opera7, 1152 x 864

    1. http://www.web-hostingresource.com/domains.htm I see "Navigation" located at the right hand side and AdSense is placed inside. I think ads should generally be located at the end of a page, like for example, in this case, AdSense should be located at the right end of this page.

1.2. The page looks kind of crowded as some people already pointed out. The links at the left hand side looks really tight; also links are kind of hard to read because of that. This should be modified in some way.

    2. http://www.web-hostingresource.com/w...ing-shared.htm Many banners ad (animated gifs?). The page looks kind of busy, and to be quite honest, not very pleasing to my eyes. I think you should take out the ad located right under the left hand side navigation bar at least. Ideally a couple of more.

2.2. People are interested in webhosts, not their banner ads. If these are paid ads, can you replace them with text links? You might not be able to ask as much fee as you ask for banner ads, but if you use text ads, probably you can list more hosts while those ads will not look as busy as the ones currently displayed.

    3. http://www.web-hostingresource.com/w...ing-budget.htm 2 and 2.2 apply to this page as well. There should not be too many banner ads.

  12. I like the overall look, but I would change the navigation background color to match, or compliment the left background color.

    1280x1024 IE

Looks pretty nice, however, I think the two columns featured host and navigation don't seem right together. On the other hand, the left column is still blank.

Also there are no other links like contact or or reviews or introduction about the site?

The problem is that I don't want to place two scyscrapers beside each other, so i may use a large scyscraper on the column at left or ad more content links.

    (İLAYDAA, Kyrgyzstan)

  15. I would suggest centering this site so it's not shoved to the left for users wih res's over 800 x 600.

I personally would have the navigation links on the left side of the page, and the advertissements on the right. We have been trained by other websites like to see the advertissements on the right, and look for the navigation near the logo or main header of the site.

Your logo at the top left is simple, which is a good thing, but the advertissement that is also at the top seems to detract from your logo.

Your pages are backwards compatible because they do not contain a doctype. I would suggest in your future work to begin with an appropriate doctype, adding one later can cause issues. Without a doctype your pages give no direction to the user's browser in how to parse them correctly.

There seems to be a lot on the home page. In all honesty if I ran across this site on the net, I wouldn't stop for a further look, because it is way too overwhelming to draw my attention.
But that could also be because I am already set up with a good web host ;)

  16. Plain and simple.. good enough. It would make a difference if you added pictures on your site.

  17. Its nice, simple and serves its purpose however I dont understand the navigation column on the right - why is this there when the nav is on the left??

    (Ali Can, Pitcairn)

  18. Simpel design, straight forward :) I like it good job!

    (behiye, Fiji)

  19. Very straightforward and clean.
The googlead is right on the spot.
Maybe add the © on the footer.

  20. I like the basic layout and colors, but I agree with the others that it's a bit 'busy'.
IMO I'd like to see the right hand navigation column moved over and beneath the navigation buttons on the left; the white content middle section moved down so it lines up with the light blue of the left column since it appears to be crowding the header.(I think this might solve the problem mentioned earlier that the banner detracts from logo)
And then move the google ads to the far right of the content column. I think these suggestions will make the site appear less crowded.

  21. I'd agree with most others, the site does look a little crowded. That's mainly due to you limiting the width to 800px, which seems quite small in our day and age and a flexible design couldn't do any harm either.
The color-scheme works overall, but if you look closely you can make out at least 6 different shades of blue, which is too much for my taste... perhaps you should limit yourself to a certain palette in the future.
I know it's the fault of my monitors resolution, but I found your content hard to read because the font is rather small. Also, it's hard-coded so it doesn't scale when I change the font-size in my browser.
I see an empty navigation bar on the right side, do you intend to use that? I'm not so sure if it's a good idea to have your secondary navigation on the opposite side of the screen... at least I can't remember seeing it work very well anywhere.

You have a good foundation to work with, just get rid of some of the issues pointed out in the reviews and you'll have a nice professional site!

I have reviewed other hosting directories and this is the nature of the website, you just have to browse through ads to pick a host. also read some articles and reviews on the presented web hosts ;)
