WebQuad Website Design Business ( 5 Views )

Hi everybody! I am new here to this site - in fact, I just joined today and posted an introduction "statement" at the - you guessed it - introduction forum! :D With this said, I have been hard at work on my new business website to represent the high quality website design services that my twin brother and I now provide! Overall, the new website was created to accommodate the new content and to attract more visitors to the site.
So, please take a look at my business website at:
www.webquad.com
I view my website on a 17 inch monitor, 800x600 resolution, Internet Explorer 6.0, running on Windows 98 operating system. Hopefully it looks good and is compatible with other browsers, because I designed it that way to ensure it looks good on all computers. If you notice any problems or compatibility issues with the browser/resolution/monitor you are using, please let me know.
Tell me what you think of it and, if you happen to notice any spelling errors or mistakes, please point them out to me - I would greatly appreciate it!
Thanks and I am looking forward to your comments,
Ryan :D

Thanks Phrozensilver for your complements, I really appreciate it! :D I am glad that you liked the rollover images because I worked hard on them.

yeah i think it takes to long to load on 56k but iam used to that lol.

LOL! :D I know what you mean - it seems to load pretty fast for me on my 56K modem, but "fast" to me may mean "slow" to people who use modems. ;)
It seems that many websites load ten times slower than mine. For instance, I've been to xbox.ign.com (a gaming website) and it takes FOREVER to load...so does www.videogames.com (another gaming site.) If you want to see slow loading, go to those websites. LOL. ::

I really like those rollovers and nice simple layout on the bottom good job. yeah i think it takes to long to load on 56k but iam used to that lol. the rollover thing with the middle image changing is really nice i think

I think i originally looked at your site in Mozilla (0.7) first time around.. I'm starting to use it as a main browser thesedays.
but to be sure, i've just looked again and compared it with IE6. It looks the same. everything that i checked appeared to work without any issues.
|
Thanks Rich for checking that out for me! ;) I have never really used Mozilla because it seems to be just a clone of Netscape Navigator since both Mozilla and Navigator have the exact design from what I have seen.

For a "high quality" web design company, the images on your site are very low quality. There are many jagged edges to many of them which make the site look very "amateurish".

So far, many people have said that on this forum, but I have gotten opinions from 20 other people (who are not a part of any web design forum but are regular surfers of the net) and they say that my graphics look stunning, and I would have to agree. ;)
I view my own website everyday and the graphics do not look jagged at all, so I have no idea what you are talking about.
Anyway, thanks again and I appreciate the comments!

I looked at your site in IE on a Mac (which can have different affects on layouts) and appeared correct. Though I think the graphics need a little work. For a "high quality" web design company, the images on your site are very low quality. There are many jagged edges to many of them which make the site look very "amateurish". The same goes for the swirl at the top. Just reminds me of a newbie using Photoshop for the first time and finding the filters. The layout seems to work, just need to improve the graphic quality and compressions so it loads quick but still looks smooth.

Hey everybody, thanks again for reviewing my website. ;)
I have a question - can someone view my site in the Mozilla and/or Opera Browser please? I would greatly appreciate it if you would do this because I have heard that Mozilla and Opera are becoming popular.
Thanks - I am looking forward to your comments!

I think the idea of the header and some other graphics around the site are nice, but it seems like they have been optimized too much causing jagged edges and a blurred look to some of them. I bet the original images look great, but if you had to optimize them that much to get them to a reasonable size for a webpage, then you may want to go a different route.
I think its a great idea, but hard to execute with 56kers in mind.

I like your header graphic. It's pretty cool looking. But I agree with the above post that mentions the water drop effect is a bit off. I think it's too large, as in too close. Not the total graphic, but the image/waves need to be smaller, and it's not quite centered with the WQ graphic.
Try matting your page graphics to match their respective backgrounds. That will help remove the jaggies.
When I clicked on services, I didn't even realize the words in blue were links. I was wondering why you sent me there, with no info about your services.
That's my take on it with a quick peruse, like a typical web surfer would do! LOL

I'll add, but keep my comments short.
Good:
- The mouseover icons
- The dropdown menu (I'm partial to them)
- The color layout
What I'd change/lose:
- The glowing effect on the title/mouseovers...
- The swirl/water effect... takes away from the 'clean' feeling of the site.
- I third (or 4th) the text issue.
Lastly I feel it's very important (ok maybe not THAT important) that you and your brother refer to yourselves as a 'Power Duo'.

Thanks everyone for reviewing my website and thanks to the moderators for posting it out on this forum so fast. :)

I enjoy the graphics alot, but you have to think about our low speed users...I'm on cable and i still have like a 3 second load time
|
3 seconds - that is REALLY fast! You don't realize how lucky you are to have cable...I am on 56k and when I go to my own site it takes about 7-10 seconds to load, so it is pretty fast for 56k, especially when compared to other websites, which seem to take FOREVER to load.

you'd be better off focusing the visitor on a particular selling point - perhaps giving them a smaller selection of options off the homepage, without so much intro text.
|
I do agree with that, thank you for your suggestions. It is a great idea and I am planning on doing that very soon...I was thinking about doing that, but I have not found the time to do so just yet, but I will! ;) Like you suggested, I am thinking about creating a central focus on the homepage to simplify the overall point of the website and the services I provide. Thank you for your idea.
Thank you for pointing that out! It really helps me out a lot because I have checked my website over and over for errors, but it always helps to have a second person check it for me. So, thank you - I went ahead and fixed those links immediately.
And thanks you everyone else who reviewed my site - I really appreciate your comments, complements, and advice. If anyone else once to throw in their opinion about my site, go ahead and do so, I would really appreciate it!
Talk to you later and see ya around!

The layout is very nice, but the header (I like its innovative idea) is slow in loading especially with ppl with dial ups..etc.
For me, the resolution of the navbar needs to be increased, but it may increase the file size so I think you should play with it for sometime using photoshop :)
Rather than this, you have a very nice design.

Hi,
Overall I thought your web site was very nice..I am viewing the site with Netscape 6.2, screen resolution of 1024x768 with a windows 98 operating system. I did have a large area of blank space on the right side of my monitor.
I loved the mouseovers! But did not like the request for donations...especially on a web design services page.
I also felt that the page had a bit too much redundant text with small print and hard to read light blue text color.
I would also like to see the graphic (take the tour) have a link, the same on your portfolio page.
One final thought...I was a bit disappointed when I clicked on take the tour...I was expecting some sort of presentation or slide show.
Thank you and good luck with your new business!

agree with quanting on the amount of text issue.. i didn't know where to look.
you'd be better off focusing the visitor on a particular selling point - perhaps giving them a smaller selection of options off the homepage, without so much intro text.
i'd also rethink the 'services' button mouse-over image.. the dollars gave me the impression that you were going to be expensive.

the water effects on the top banner looks kinda cheesy imho, and hurt a bit the eye. I like the mouse overs on the menu however.
I'd say there's a little too much text, or maybe is it that it's too small, but when looking at first at the page i miss things appealing my eye. Maybe some sentences in larger fonts here and there with key marketing impact could help.
Also it's kinda weird that the same color is used sometimes for links and sometimes just for text.
Why would people donate to a web design company ?
Finally, it's a little bit suspicious for a new customer that all the sites in your portfolio belong to your network. On a more positive note the overall look and feel of the site is good.

Yeah, what host are you using? There is alot of images that be turned into simple bg colors if they are sliced properly. That will save alot on the download time. The graphics up top are low qaulity but they should stay like that until you get the download speed thing fixed. The general design and layout does look go except for the very top. Maybe put those links on a bg of the same color then move that beveled line up.

Your site is very appealing to me. I enjoy the graphics alot, but you have to think about our low speed users...I'm on cable and i still have like a 3 second load time....but its not that bad considering those graphics...good job keep it up...but try to tone down the size of the page, think about loadign times....

From a prospective customer point of view, I would like to see one big attention grabber, rather than many little ones. I feel lost because there are too many things to look at at once. A CMS like this would be great for an online publication, but, IMO, not for a design business.
