Import email files from Outlook ( 3 Views )

no kitty!
  1. Hey guys. I had a problem with my computer and had to replace the motherboard. I also replaced the hard drive. On my old hard drive I have all the files that were on the old computer. I need to be able to read the email messages that were in Outlook on the old hard drive. How can I do this??? I can't use export because it is no longer a "separate computer", just files. Please help, I have some important messages I don't want to lose. It's Outlook 2002, part of Office XP.

  2. If you want your old messages on the new hard drive, I think you can copy any .pst files that you find on the old hard drive to the proper folder on the new hard drive (do a search on the new hard drive to see where Outlook stores its .pst files). Then in Outlook, go to File/Open Personal Folders File, and tell it to open the .pst file that you copied from the old drive. NOTE: Change the name of the .pst file on the old drive before you copy it, unless you're willing to have it overwrite the .pst file of the same name on your new drive.

If you want to leave the files on the old drive, then in Outlook, File/Open Personal Folders File, and tell it to open the .pst file(s) that are on the old drive.

  4. The problem is that Outlook 2002 doesn't use .pst file extension anymore, so I can't find the file where the messages are saved.

  5. Errm....Outlook 2002 = Outlook XP and it uses .pst for mail archives for sure...!!!

  6. I thought that outlook express saved files in .dbx. I'm not sure if this is correct b/c i've never tried, but when I opened outlook and checked where it said D:\Documents and Settings\...\Outlook Express\Inbox.dbx

    Edit:

For outlook express not outlook.... Wrong program

True, but Outlook Express != Outlook

as OE is the free version normally installed with Internet Explorer, whereas Outlook is the "full" version which is normally shipped with the pro version of the Office package and is available in single retail, too...;)
