Changing URL Losing PR ( 4 Views )

1. I had a site hosted with tripod's free service. It was pretty crappy, but I had a PR of 6 and was always out of bandwidth(1 gig/month)
   
   So I redesigned it on a better server with php/mysql and bought a domain. Now my PR is 3, and almost all my traffic redirects from my old site. Is there a way to in effect transfer all the pr to the new site. (ie remove all links on old site and replace them with ones to the appropriate section of the new site.)

2. Check your main sources of backlinks by visiting Google and typing:
   
   link:
   
   before your Tripod URL (without the http://)
   
   If applicable, you can then contact the various webmasters linking to your site with the new domain URL.

3. i just checked(38 results) and most of the sites were actually my tripod site itself linking back to the main page. So I assume I should change those links to my new site asap.

4. I bet your tripod site didn't have a PR of 6, it likely had no PR.
   
   When Google has not crawled a page it guesses a PR based on the page's domain. This is why you often find pages on Tripod, Geocities, or wherever with high PRs. Once google actually crawls your site it will assign an appropriate PR, which is usually much lower.

5. well then it had no pr for about 2 and a half years. i think the pr was accurate as i remember promoting the site a lot when I was a very inexperienced webdesigner and even though the design was bad, the content was original and i allowed people to use it if the linked back to my site.
