Upgrading from P2.53 to E6400 - need advice! ( 2 Views )

1. I am currently doing an upgrade to the E6400 and Asrock Dual 775 VSTA MB, with DDR400 (2x512MB). I currently have WinXP installed on my system, but do not want to have to reinstall the OS all over again. Any advice as to how to proceed once I upgrade?
   
   My current MB uses the PT880-Neo, and this Asrock board uses the PT880-Pro.
   
   How much of a performance improvement will I notice?

2. Finnaly installed MB and C2D, booted to previous WinXP installation; no problems. Windows automatically reloaded drivers. This is on Bios 1.10. Will update to 1.80

3. Updated to Bios 1.80. Alls well that ends well. Both cores are recognized as I see 2 graphs under the CPU usage history.

4. I would re-install windows anyway. When you do this major of an upgrade, you can have a lot of issues that crop up if you don't do a fresh install. besides the fact that your OS has already been overloaded with bloat from past use. New board... fresh install. If you don't I'd bet money on you being back here with a problem that you are having.

6. I just put it through a torture test of F.E.A.R.: EP. No problems! I will consider your advice.

7. 2 Hrs of intense gaming later....still 100% stable! Fantastic. Need a better GPU to play FEAR. Most memory timings set to auto except for CL-2 and 1T set manually.

8. When I finally get my new parts sometime in the future, I won't be reinstalling Windows either, unless it doesn't boot, because it's the middle of the semester and I don't want to waste time with it. When this Christmas rolls around, though, I'll definitely format/reinstall.

9. Yeah I definitely was not looking forward to reinstalling WinXP either, as I had just reinstalled the OS a few weeks ago. I think I was fortunate enough to have very similar chipsets.
