Help me build high-end mATX gaming machine... ( 2 Views )

no kitty!
  1. Building for my brother in law.

Cost isn't an issue, only thing he wants is mATX.

Here's what I have in mind.

Temjin TJ-08/Antec NSK3300 (mod to fit ATX PSU)
    Corsair 600 watt modular
    Asus P5B-VM
    C2D e6600
    2GB Corsair 533mhz (he's not overclocking)
    X1950XTX
    320GB Seagate .10
    Plextor SATA DVD/RW
    x-FI Platinum

No cubes please...I've never recovered from trying to cool my Aria. :D

    What do you guys think/suggest?

  2. My suggestion? Just go with a mid-tower. All of those mini-towers are made out of heavy steel and are only going to be maybe 2 lbs lighter and not much smaller. It opens up a lot more options.

Why would he not overclock? I don’t understand that.

    (bayram, Denmark)

  3. yeah. I would myself prefer a smallish mid-tower, but he wants the case on his desk and he did not like the size of the mid-tower Lian-Li he had before. I tried to sell him the idea of a Chenbro SR209 (which is what I have) but he found that too big. and that's smaller than an Antec Solo already.

he's not overlcoking....because he doesn't want/need to. he's never OC'ed and no intentions too start.

He wants stability more than anything else, and in a SFF to boot.

  4. If you are basing your cube cooling opinion on the Aria, I think you should take another look at the newer cube designs. See my hardware in sig, microfly keeps it nice and cool without problems.

  5. The P5B-VM is insanely picky about memory (I have one). Make sure you get 1.8v stuff to be safe, and it maxes at 1.95. Everything will fit fine in that case though (have that, too). TJ08 is very quiet w/the 2 12CM fans in it.

  6. if a mini-tower will fit on his desk than a mid-tower will likely fit. I suggest one of the box type cases for a desk PC. I currently have a Qmicra sitting on my desk and it seems to work well.

  7. DONT buy an ARIA. I dont care what antec did to it (Change the name and add two vents?) Its horrible. Get a TJ08, SG01E, hell even a microfly.

Also, it doesnt matter if he is overclocking or not, newer Am2 and intel boards use native ddr2-800/667 without OCing.

  8. werd on not buying the Aria.

the TJ-08 is a sweet little case. gobs of airflow...

also - look into the G50 or the v600 from Lian-Li.
mATX case size with ATX mobo capability : D

  9. Love my TJ08 and have had an X-QPack and the TJ08B is far superior. Love mine and has tons of space :)

dang, don't be so hostle to the poor Aria....just because it isn't built for ATi's new 250watt GPU doesn't mean its a bad case. I love the little thing :) Its an upgradable shuttle.

  11. I would go with an SG-01E over a TJ08, it will be much smaller.

The Aria is just stupid for the price anyways, Steeeve. There are much better options for both price and size...

It is, but if he has the space, the TJ08 does look nice for a tower, and the 2 12CM fans really keep it cool with little noise.

  13. It's just a shame the TJ08 isn't aluminium.

And why is that a problem? :)

...because steel is heavy and retains heat more. On the plus side it deadens noise and is sturdier.

  16. Not an ARIA

the Antec NSK 3300 is NOT an Aria it is a mATX Tower the NSK1300 is the redesigned ARIA

    (tugce, Norway)

  17. SST SG01-e
    SST TJ08
    Antec Fusion

The amount of heat eliminated by being conducted through the case walls is practically negligible compared to the heat removed by airflow. Aluminum does conduct heat better than steel, but when you're talking case materials, it's a moot point. I wish people would stop propagating the myth of aluminum cases running cooler (all other things being equal).

  20. Seriously, the TJ08 is very nice, and doesn't get very hot, at least it didn't for me (with the 2 12C fans, and 12CM fan in the PSU). Also the nicest looking micro tower I've seen, although the SG01 is even nicer looking, just a bit more cramped.

    (hüseyin, Brazil)

  21. At this point, I think I'm goling to build him the rig using a TJ08.

The Sugo 02, may have been an option, but its not out yet.

I originally suggested an NSK300 as well, but after doing more research, looks like there will have to be some heavy duty drill work to clear space in the back to accomodate a normal ATX, as the exhaust won't line up properly.

Again, thanks for all the replies.
