Problem with Asus P5W DH Deluxe... or possibly gfx card. Help! ( 2 Views )
-
Hello, I'm new to the forum, would appreciate any help. I've been searching forums dealing with Asus P5W DH Deluxe problems and fixes but none seem to exactly fit my problem.
I've recently built a system consisting mainly of all new parts, with the P5W as motherboard. Everything's connected, I turn on the power, the system powers up, all fans start spinning but monitor indicates no video signal. I get no picture at all.
Now, the motherboard does not beep at all. I'm not sure what the P5W beep codes are, but I thought it should make SOME noise after POST.
I've stripped everything down to just mobo, CPU and fan, and still no beeps, so I don't think it's a RAM error. I'm using a Pentium 4 630 and not Core 2 Duo, so it's not the common P5W BIOS error.
I don't have another PCI-E mobo, so I can't try the graphics card out separately to make sure that it is actually working and that the lack of video signal isn't down to gfx card failure. The graphics card fan is spinning, but I can't be absolutely sure it's actually sending a signal. It's a ATI Radeon X850XT PE with two DVI outputs. I have a VGA monitor, so I use a simple DVI to VGA converter plug. The converter might be another source of error. I have tried using another VGA monitor, but I still got no picture at all.
Since I don't get any picture it's very difficult for me to even begin to isolate the problem. I'm not sure if it's a mobo problem, a graphics card problem, a monitor problem, or two or more at the same time.
So my first question would be, is the fact that I don't get even a single beep on startup a definite sign of mobo failure?
For RAM i use 2 x 1GB Kingston HyperX DDR2 6400, if it is of any help. But as I said, even with just CPU and fan I get no startup beep(s).

My first question would be: Do you have the 4Pin AUX power connector plugged in?

omfg i am officially an egg! yep, that was it. can't believe i overlooked something so obvious.
everything is running smoothly now.. mobo temperature slightly high though, about 52C. is it acceptable or should i take steps to reduce it? (plastic coating on the heatsinks has been removed btw)

Hm.. well after i put some light air filters on my air intake my mobo temp went up to 45 and i thought that was hot. So maybe you should look into why yours is so hot...

OMG, i finally found sum1 with a similar problem! sweeet, im going to see if what you did will solve my problem. i can start mine up but i have to turn on the computer like 3 times before anything comes up, and it only does this after i leave my comp off for several hours. if this works i sincerely thank you guys for this info, this crap has bugged me for like a week now. hopefully this works cuz ive tried everything.
i have just opened my pc and i infact do not have that aux power connector plugged in. even if this doesnt solve my problem im glad i this thread reminded me to check that. awsome, well hopefully tomorrow morning this will boot up completely on the first try. thank you tabris for this thread.

That's rather warm. Do you have decent airflow in your case? When I got my P5W DH I removed both northbridge and southbridge sinks and cleaned up the crap TIM and applied AS5. I also removed the copper sticker tops they put on them. It might be that the heatsink just needs to be reseated...
