GA-965G-DS3 Flashed With GA-965P-DS3 BIOS? ( 6 Views )

no kitty!
  1. Here's one for ya. Will it work? The only difference I can see is the HT and onboard-vid. I'm a bit reluctant to try it though. I'm using the GA-965G-DS3 I accidentally purchased instead of the P-DS3, so I was just curious.

The G-DS3 is giving a headache in the BIOS, can't change the CPU FSB at all....

  2. if u want that board to live to see tomorrow i highly advise against it.

  4. Well, if you're up for it...

I suppose that it wouldn't hurt too much to try it if you've got a spare setup to hot-flash the BIOS back to the original, or if that board has the "dual bios" support ... Just make sure that you can recover from it if you do have a bad flash.

  5. Yeah, I've tried using the latest version and pressing CTRL + F1 to get into the advanced BIOS options. No matter how hard I try, I can't move the FSB anywhere. The video card also doesn't get recognized when POSTing at times too. I highly advise against this board, even though it's practically the same thing as the P-DS3, just with onboard vid.

  6. Buggy Bios Batman!

I have been having the same problems, If I go anywhere over 285mhz fsb, It just beeps shuts down and reboots. I can use the included overclocker utility in windows and have gotten over 310mhz fsb but it won't boot in it. I know the heatsink on this motherboard runs HOT and if you are using the onboard video once you get over 295 mhz it has all sorts of video artifacting etc. I have tried everything I can find in the bios, locking PIG, memory timings etc to no avail. I have been able to get the memory to run at around 1066mhz but the lack of memory timing settings on this board is disappointing.

I was going to send this board back but decided to keep it as the only reason I was disappointed was because of the non-existant overclock ability. I do like the ability to have 3 monitors on this at default frequencies.

I haven't had a single problem otherwise, this board is rock solid.

Yeah, this board is beginning to disappoint. I'm thinking about sending it back to Newegg for the P-DS3 instead; the headaches that it comes with is starting to give me a migraine.

BTW, you CAN change the timings.. just press CTRL + F1 in the BIOS main page and you'll enable the special features.

If anyone else has luck overclocking this board, do tell. I'm gonna start ripping it out of my system starting tomorrow.
