ASUS P5B No Screen ( 6 Views )

no kitty!
  1. Tried with a C2D E6300. At first I thought the BIOS was old or something so I tried a Celeron D 326. Same blank screen.

When I use an Intel D946GZ, both chips, the 6200LE, and Kingston RAM Im testing with all work and give me a screen. Is the ASUS board just bad?

EDIT: Wow okay, I put everything back onto the P5B for one more test and guess what? Yeah it works now. Sometimes I really hate computers... :(

  2. Hmm this is turning out to be quite a hassle. Ive had some random problems show up then dissapear or vice versa like a "Chassis intrusion" error when I havent even touched the default off jumper setting. Later the RAID controller decided to search for a drive for a REALLY long time then reboot. It also took several minutes to install the audio drivers which I thought was weird. Later my optical drive dissapeared from Windows...

Anyone else having such a hassle with this board?

  3. I am. I can't get the thing to post without switching of the PSU and resetting the cmos. tried saving defaults in the bios, tried rasiing voltages, disabling EVERYTHING, only bare necessary hardware is plugged in. Mine happens to bethe Ai Lifestyle edition though, instead of the Wifi. Got it from Fry's not realizing there were 2 different versions.

Anyways, this only seems to happen with my e6400. I had to take it up to fry's to get them to flash they bios, and it worked fine with 2.8ghz p4 and my patriot ram. I'm going to take it back tommorow and just order the Wi-Fi

  4. I just did my install with the P5B and E6400 last night. It was nothing but drama.

After doing the hardware install, upon the first post I immediately flashed to the 0309 bios. After the next reboot I got a few post errors, including 'cpu uCode loading error', some error telling me my overclock had failed (??), and something else too. My bios would never save any changes either. It was a mess.

So I flashed back to the older 0211 bios, and everything was fixed except the uCode Loading Error (which I could hit F1 to bypass). But at least with the 0211 bios I could install Windows and get things moving. After Windows was installed, I flashed back to bios 0309 and now everything boots fine with no errors.

In the end, everything works and the chip is super friggin' fast. The Asus bios definitely needs some polishing though.

  5. I forgot to add that while trying to make the 0309 bios work, after a few reboots it wouldn't even post. Yes, it was just a blank screen. The only way to get it to post again was to reset the cmos (following the instructions in the manual). I had to reset the cmos everytime I wanted to reboot.

0211 fixed that problem for me.

  6. Interesting - so you got everything setup with the 211 BIOS first then flashed to 309 later? Ill try that.

Hmm today it seems they just released a "509" BIOS... Ill check that out I guess.

Also where can I get old BIOS versions? The site only has the latest one and I dunno the FTP address.

Awesome - it wont let me boot from CDROM now. Ive never had this much hassle with a mobo before, ASUS or any other brand. WTF.

  7. heres the ftp address: ftp.asus.com.tw
edit: hmm theres no older biosses on ftp either, sorry

  9. Well I flashed to the 509 and I eventually got things working. A couple of things though:

And are there no RAM dividers that let me run it at a frequency LESS than the FSB? Like if I set 333 for the FSB/CPU I cant choose to run the RAM at like 266x2? That kinda sucks.
